Tips for National Toilet Tank Repair Month

Gold Medal Service Offers Tips for National Toilet Tank Repair Month

Checking efficiency today can save on future water bills

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. Oct. 17, 2013 – Keeping your toilet tank in good repair is a surprising but very serious matter. That’s why October is National Toilet Tank Repair Month. Studies have found that one in every four toilet tanks leak, wasting more than 70,000 gallons of water a year. Gold Medal Service, an award-winning heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical, drain and waterproofing service company, is offering New Jersey residents tips on how to catch potential plumbing issues and save on their water bills.

“No one thinks about their toilet until it stops working due to a clog or starts leaking,” said Mike Agugliaro, Gold Medal Service’s co-founder. “With homes getting older, homeowners and landlords really need to inspect toilets at least once a year for leaks around the base, the flapper and hoses.”

If you don’t think that little drip is costing you money, think again. Leaks, on average, account for 10,000 gallons of water wasted in the home every year.

The most common types of leaks found in the home include leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets and other leaking valves. Fixing easily-corrected household water leaks can save homeowners more than 10 percent on their water bills.

One way to find out if you have a toilet leak is to place a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If the color shows up in the bowl within 15 minutes without flushing, you have a leak. Make sure to flush immediately after this experiment to avoid staining the tank.

A constantly running toilet could be wasting 200 gallons of water or more every day.

Replacing older, inefficient toilets that typically use three gallons per flush with ones that use about a gallon, could save more than 16,000 gallons per year. Retrofitting the house could save approximately $2,000 in water bills over a lifetime.

“Before scheduling a service expert to come to your home or business,” stresses Agugliaro, “verify that the business conducts background and security checks. At Gold Medal, all of our service experts go through rigorous background checks and wear easy to see and read identification badges for your convenience.”

Gold Medal Service provides leak-proofing services, and regularly receives the Super Service Award from Angie’s List, a designation given to less than five percent of businesses that maintain a superior service record.
