Students Learn Essential Business Skills Thanks to Local Entrepreneur
Owner of one of New Jersey’s largest home services companies, Gold Medal Service, shows teens from the Princeton Learning Cooperative how to run a successful business
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. March 24, 2014 – Teen students from Princeton Learning Cooperative, a center offering personalized education opportunities to students, visited the offices of Gold Medal Service, one of New Jersey’s largest and most successful heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and drain service companies Monday, March 24 for a hands-on business education experience. Mike Agugliaro, Gold Medal Service co-founder and ServiceKey business mentor, gave students a tour of his company and talked with them about business processes, including recruiting, marketing, accounting, and management.
“My son is a part of the Princeton Learning Cooperative program, and I am just so impressed with the opportunities the center offers to students,” said Agugliaro. “These kids have the opportunity to really personalize their education to things that interest them, and to get outside of the traditional classroom to see what it’s like to work in the real world.”
Agugliaro grew Gold Medal Service into a $23-million-a-year home services company, serving the entire state of New Jersey. He started ServiceKey in 2013 to show other service business owners how they could use his techniques to grow their own companies, and he is eager to guide the next generation of entrepreneurs, and encourage young people to pursue a career in the home services industry.
“So many kids are choosing not to go into trades like plumbing, electrical, and HVAC anymore, so there’s a real shortage of qualified technicians and entrepreneurs in the industry,” said Agugliaro. “I want to show teens who are about to have to make some big life decisions that they can do well in this business, be very successful, and have a great time doing it.”
